Kangana Ranaut to play legendary Bengali theatre superstar Binodini Dasi in Pradeep Sarkar's film.
On Wednesday, Kangana Ranaut announced that she has signed on to play Binodini Dasi, better known as Noti Binodini.
Director Pradeep Sarkar, who is known for 'Parineeta' and 'Mardani', will direct the upcoming movie. Veteran Writer Prakash Kapadia who penned 'Padmaavat', 'Devdas', 'Black', 'Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior' has penned the script.

This is the fourth film in which Ms. Ranaut plays a real-life character, following Rani Laxmibai in "Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi", J Jayalalithaa in "Thalaivii" and Indira Gandhi in the upcoming feature film "Emergency."

About Noti Binodini -
Born into a family of sex workers in Kolkata, Binodini emerged as the most famous actress of the 19th century Bengal. In a career spanning 12 years, she played over 80 roles including those of Sita, Draupadi, Radha, Kaikeyi, and Motibibi, among others. She renounced She is touted as the first actress in British India. She is also regarded as one of the first South Asian actresses of the theatre to write her own autobiography.
Binodini is also considered as the pioneering entrepreneur of the Bengali stage and introduced modern techniques of stage make-up through blending European and indigenous styles.
'Noti Binodini' starring Kangana Ranaut as the main lead. Directed by Pradeep Sarkar and written by Prakash Kapadia goes on floor in 2023.
