Kangana Ranaut is nominated for the Best Actress in a leading role for her performance in the film Thalaivii. She is competing with south actresses Nayanthara and Leejimol Jose. SIIMA are one of the very popular South India award shows. Thalaivii is Kangana Ranaut's second Tamil film and overall third south film. Also this is the second time she is being nominated at South Film Awards. Earlier she was nominated for Best Debut Actress at Vijay Awards back in 2009 for the film Dhaam Dhoom.

Thalaivii is a 2021 Indian biographical drama film based on the life of Indian actress-politician Dr. J. Jayalalithaa. The film stars Kangana Ranaut as Jayalalithaa & Arvind Swami as M. G. Ramachandran. Thalaivii is shot simultaneously in Tamil and Hindi languages, it is directed by A. L. Vijay and written by Madhan Karky. Thalaivii is produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shailesh R Singh of Vibri Motion Pictures and Karma Media And Entertainment respectively. The film is now streaming of two streaming giants Netflix and Prime Video.
